What are the possibilities of non-synthetic preparations? This question was asked by Werner Rizzolli (Versuchszentrum Laimburg) at the fruit growing seminar orgaised by the graduate association of colleges of agriculture and horticulture (A.L.S) in South Tyrol
Trials carried out by Rizzolli show that alternative products are generally less effective than chemical ones. This poor efficacy easily leads to an infestation that can no longer be controlled. According to Rizzolli, alternative products have to be applied in combination with a product with a good efficacy. Sometimes, alternative products cause phytotoxic reactions in plants and are by no means always less harmful to the environment.
