Sharp drop in blueberry prices in China due to increased production
17 April 2026
According to local Chinese media, blueberry prices in China have fallen sharply in recent weeks as the market is flooded with domestically grown berries.
The rapid expansion of Chinese blueberry cultivation has not only led to lower prices but has also changed the image of the blueberry: consumers no longer regard the fruit as a premium product, but now see it as a more accessible, affordable snack.
The news site China Daily reported that blueberry prices have fallen by almost half since March compared to the level during the Chinese New Year holiday period (17 February 2026).
Grower prices in the main production areas have also fallen by around 50 per cent compared to last year. The price drop began in early March and prices are expected to fall further, as Chinese blueberries reach their peak production between May and July.
The price drop has become a much-discussed topic on social media in China. Users have expressed their surprise at how blueberries have suddenly become affordable and readily available, having previously been an exclusive and unattainable product. (Source: Freshfruitportal.com)
