For as long as 50 years, during the Prognosfruit congress the estimates for the European apple and pear crops have been announced. During this year’s edition from 5 to 7 August in the South German city of Konstanz on Lake Constance, the 50th anniversary is celebrated. The choice of Konstanz is no accident. Fifty years ago, Prognosfruit was an initiative of the neighbouring research institute, the present ‘Kompetenzzentrum Obstbau Bodensee’ (KOB) in Bavendorf and was organised there for the first time in 1976.
The use and the reliability of the crop estimates have regularly been called into question in the past couple of years. The form it takes – a live meeting – may well be a bit out-dated in our present digital world. For representatives of sales organisations and sales companies, however, Prognosfruit is an annual networking event where colleagues from all over Europe gather. More information on the 2026 edition may be found on the website www.prognosfruit.eu.
