To start this article with a one-liner: The future of cherry growing in Europe depends on the possibilities to control spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii). In various countries, with the crop protection products available and the accompanying limitations on the application, in future, adequate control will hardly be possible. However, there is some hope as well: Parasitic wasps come to the aid of the fruit grower. However, all by themselves they don’t seem to be making a great success of it either…
