According to Agreste, the bureau for statistics of the French authorities, a lot of cherries have been picked in France in 2025. The estimated crop of 35,000 tonnes will be 6% bigger than in 2024 and 15% bigger than the average over the years 2020 through 2024. More and more orchards are protected by insect netting and rain protection cover. The number of older, unprotected orchards is still big, however, and therefore very susceptible to the weather. Some damage has been done by spring frosts to some early varieties in the southwest of the country, but the larger part of the production regions has experienced no frost. Weather conditions during flowering were also good. According to Agreste, the two largest cherry producing countries in Europe – Spain and Turkey – have suffered extreme weather conditions.
