FIZZ: a new apple variety with pink-red flesh
21 March 2026
Over the past few weeks, the FIZZ™ apple has been harvested in New Zealand. Fizz is the brand name for apples of the PremA021 variety, a variety with red flesh. Production is still very limited. Following the first 10 tonnes in 2025, 54 tonnes were harvested this year.
FIZZ™ is grown and sold exclusively by the New Zealand company Snazzy Fruit. This year’s harvest is being sold to buyers in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, India and Canada.
By 2025, 20,000 PremA021/FIZZ trees had been planted. According to the manager of Snazzy Fruit, the intention is to increase the number of trees.
According to the breeder, Dr Richard Volz, the variety has several unique characteristics, such as the bright pink-red coloured flesh and the strong, fresh berry-like flavour. (Source: fruchthandel.de)
