Interpoma is just around the corner
Interpoma is about much more than machinery and new apple varieties. It is also an opportunity to talk to growers, visit orchards in South Tyrol and see how others approach crop protection, harvesting, storage and apple sales. The world’s leading trade show dedicated exclusively to apples will take place in Bolzano from 25 to 27 November.
The 14th edition of Interpoma will be held from 25 to 27 November 2026. It is the only international trade show devoted entirely to apples. Bolzano brings together machinery manufacturers, nurseries, breeders, Italian consortia, companies specializing in storage and sorting, as well as apple growers themselves.
As every two years, we will be there too. Above all, we want to spot new developments, talk to growers and companies from different countries and see what attracts the most attention this time.
With each edition, we meet more and more visitors from Poland in Bolzano. Many growers also combine their visit to the trade show with orchard visits and meetings with producers from South Tyrol. Interpoma also organises technical tours. Nine are planned for this year.
What caught our attention in 2022 and 2024?
After the 2022 edition, we wrote a lot about harvest automation. We looked at robots, labour-assistance equipment and new generations of orchard harvesting machines, including electric and hybrid models. There was also plenty happening around club varieties and apple brands such as Kanzi, Cosmic Crisp, Envy and Ambrosia.
Two years later, in 2024, digitalization played a much bigger role. Apps and solutions using artificial intelligence became one of the main themes of the show. Some systems could assess apple size and color from a photo of a bin, while others counted fruit on trees, estimated yields, created flowering maps or helped monitor diseases. There were also complete farm-management systems.
There was also less of a “wow factor” around new varieties in 2024. However, several common trends could be seen among the new introductions: earlier harvest dates, better coloring in hot weather and improved disease resistance.
What will we see this year?
This year’s program places a strong emphasis on crop protection application technology. The first day of the congress will focus on this subject. Presentations will cover topics such as adjusting spray applications to the tree canopy using sensors, UV-C technology in crop protection, fixed spraying systems and drones.
Spray technology will also feature in a special exhibition area called “The Orchard of the Future”.
The second day will focus heavily on Latin America and apple production in the region, including Brazil, Chile and Mexico.
Naturally, we are also interested in new varieties. Will breeders present apples that cope better with high temperatures and a changing climate? Will there be something completely new? We will find out in November.
