In mid-June, the Belgian organisations Nature & Progrès and PAN Europe lodged an appeal against seven emergency authorisations for insecticides containing the active substance spirotetramat (a.o. Movento)

The European authorisation for spirotetramat expired in April 2024. Growers in the EU were given until the end of 2025 to use up their existing stocks.

For diseases and pests against which no sufficiently effective control products are available, the EU offers Member States the option of temporarily authorising a product for a period of up to 120 days. For such applications, it must be demonstrated that an exceptional emergency situation exists, as the pest in question cannot be controlled by any other reasonable means.

According to PAN Europe and Nature & Progrès, the emergency authorisations issued in Belgium do not meet these criteria. (Source: Vilt.be)
