From now on, Cosmic Crisp® can also be grown in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. At the beginning of February, it was announced that the Deutsches Obst-Sorten Konsortium (DOSK), Austria Fruit Group (AFG) and World Wide Fruit Ltd (WFL) will grow and sell the apple in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom respectively.
WA38/Cosmic Crisp, which originates from the United States, has quickly established a strong position there. Cultivation in the US is limited to the state of Washington until 2027. More than 17 million trees of this variety have already been planted there.
The South Tyrolean sales organisations VOG and VIP have brought the apple to Europe. In 2025, WA38/Cosmic Crisp was the second most planted variety in South Tyrol, just behind Golden Delicious.
Following South Tyrol's lead, Cosmic Crisp is now also available to growers in northern Germany and Lake Constance, Austria and the United Kingdom. A number of other countries are likely to follow in the coming years. Sales partners in France, the Benelux and Switzerland are currently testing the variety with the aim of starting production within a few years.
