German Apple Day on 11 January 2026 was celebrated with a drone show over Dresden

As every year on 11 January, German apples were in the spotlight – this time in the truest sense of the word. As an ambassador for enjoyment, quality, regional identity and innovation, Germany's favourite fruit was spectacularly showcased with an elaborately staged drone show that turned the evening sky above Dresden into a projection screen.

The aim of the campaign, which was initiated by the Federal Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organisations (BVEO), was to draw attention to the quality and diversity of local apples – and to honour the people behind them. At 6 p.m. on 11 January 2026, hundreds of drones took to the Dresden evening sky, choreographed into a multimedia spectacle, creating gigantic apple silhouettes, slogans and graphic images. This took place. directly on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden, opposite the old town and the Frauenkirche – and in the immediate vicinity of one of Germany's largest apple-growing regions.
