Half of import honey is fake

Almost half the honey that enters Europe appears to be fake. Cheap sugars replace the natural nectar. If you buy sugar in a supermarket there is a good chance that you do not get pure honey. Research by the European Union has shown that 46 percent of imported honey contains substances that should not be in it. Producers add cheap sugars to keep the price low and increase the volume.
China and Argentina together supply most of the honey to Europe. Especially Chinese honey raises questions: 74 percent appeared not to be nectar honey. (Source: Vilt.be)
