Growing interest in pear growing in North Germany

In spite of various attempts, pear growing in North Germany has never come off the ground. This seems to be changing now. During the past four seasons, more pear trees were planted than ever before.

In the past 5 years, in the area about 270,000 pear trees have been planted, of which 101,300 were Conference (37%), 73,300 Oksana/Nojabrskaja (brand name Novembra®/Xenia®) and 38,600 Bay 6474/Alessia®. In the 2023/2024 planting season, more Oksana/Nojabrskaja (37,900) were planted than of Conference (34,700). In total, there are pear trees now on a surface area of 360 ha.
