Dutch pear grower Marc van den Oever wants to start growing the Abate Fetel pear variety in the Netherlands and Belgium. For years now, Abate Fetel has also been the favourite pear with German consumers. During the past few years, due to the falling Italian production, Abate Fetel has lost this position to Conference from especially the Netherlands and Belgium. That is why Van den Oever is planning to sell the Abate Fetel grown in the Netherlands and Belgium in Germany. For this purpose, he has registered AbateNL as a brand name.
