The Dutch are eating slightly more apples again

In 2023, Dutch consumers ate slightly more apples than the year before, GroentenFruit Huis, the branch organisation for trading companies in fruits and vegetables, has found. This breaks the falling trend of the past few years.
Last year, Dutch consumers ate an average 10.6 kg of apples. This volume still lags behind apple consumption in Germany and Poland, where respectively 13.1 and 11.1 kg of apples are eaten per head of population. Dutch people do eat slightly more apples than the Italians (10.4 kg) and the British (9.2 kg).

Three-quarters home-produced
Of the apples bought in the Netherlands by consumers, 75% is produced within the Netherlands. The most-bought, home-produced apple varieties are Elstar, Jonagold and Nicoter/Kanzi®. The foreign apples that are most popular in the Dutch supermarkets are Pink Lady®, Granny Smith and Gala.
