Rests of glyphosate – the active ingredient of among other things Roundup – and the degradation product AMPA in the surface water, by no means all come from use in agriculture and horticulture. It was recently found, that also detergents used by consumers that via the sewage water end up in the surface water and waste water from the pharmaceutical industry are important sources of glyphosate in the environment. Even more than that, researchers suppose that glyphosate also ends up in the surface water as a result of the aminopolyphosphonates present in detergents being converted into glyphosate.
