The price of apple concentrate with an average acidity rate of 22.5% has risen to € 1.850 per tonne on an annual basis. This is 39.0% higher than the five-year average for April. The higher prices are the result of a small Polish apple crop in 2023. Poland is an important producer of apple juice for the European market.
Buyers keep careful track of the situation in Polish orchards. They hope that prices of apples for the juice industry will start to fall thanks to a large Polish crop in 2024. However, this is by no means certain. Due to early flowering of the trees, spring frost caused a lot of damage to flowers in the second half of April. It is unclear what the impact of the spring frost is going to be on production. Buyers are reserved though and in April and May only bought for short term delivery.
