“Make life for the apple blossom weevil as difficult as possible”

Trapping weevils appears not to be sufficient to prevent damage by the apple blossom weevil (Anthonomus pomorum) after all, as appeared in 2023. One year ago, in EFM, we reported on very hopeful results of trials in which weevils were trapped with the help of bundles with black synthetic tubular ties hung in apple trees. Experiences in 2023, however, have shown that that so many weevils remain in the orchard that a great part of the crop can be lost.
