EU apple and pear crop revised downwards

The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) has revised downwards its production figures for the 2023 EU apple and pear harvest.
According to the forecasts presented at Prognosfruit in early August, EU countries would harvest 11,410,681 tonnes of apples and 1,745,632 tonnes of pears this year.
However, due to climatic conditions, production turns out to be smaller than expected in early August.
According to the adjusted harvest forecast, the European apple harvest will fall below 11 million tonnes, according to WAPA. This is 4% less than estimated in August.
The final pear harvest is expected to be 6% smaller than the August estimate, reaching 1,720,000 tonnes.
