Storm and hail reduce SH apple crop

During the past few weeks, various reports appeared in the media about severe damage to the apple and pears crops due to storm and hail in New Zealand and South Africa. Both countries have adjusted their crop estimates downwards by respectively 15% and 6%. At the end of March, the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) published an update of the apple and pear crops in the southern hemisphere. The apple crop turns out to be 156,000 tonnes, or 3% smaller than estimated. This makes it 2.4% bigger now than the 2022 crop instead of 6% bigger than estimated earlier. (Source: WAPA)
