9 hectares of organic apple growing under rain covers

Using rain covers to limit infections by scab and other fungi in apple is still in the research phase. In 2014, French fruit grower Laurent Rougerie started with 2,500 m2 of rain covers over his organically grown Golden Delicious. At the moment, 9 hectares of orchards at the farm are fitted out with rain covers. On the basis of 8 years of experience, the system now looks quite different from what he started out with in 2014. In an article in the EFM October issue, the grower tells about his experiences.
