Swiss company Vivent Biosignals has developed the PhytlSigns biosensor, which can detect a pest or a disease or a deficiency disease at an early stage.
When plants experience stress, for instance, due to an infestation by a pest or a disease or a shortage of nutrients, the electric signals in the plant change. The PhytlSigns biosensor of Vivent Biosignals continuously monitors these bio signals with two electrodes coupled to the plant.
In this way the plant itself functions as a ‘sensor’ and pests, diseases and (drought) stress are observed before the fruit grower himself can signal it.
